Roadrunner Pharmacy offers nearly 25,000 compounded medication options. While our product catalog includes many of our available options, it doesn’t contain a full list. Our expert pharmacists can work with you to customize a medication to your patient’s unique needs—whether you need a different strength, dose form or a combination of medications.

Compounded medications are prescribed by a veterinarian and compounded by a state-licensed pharmacy. They are customized preparations of medicines that are not otherwise commercially available and/or are not available in a dose form or strength needed to appropriately treat a patient’s clinical needs. In addition, many companies have discontinued the manufacturing of commercial medications for animals. For these patients, customized medications, or compounds, may be the only way to achieve therapeutic results.

All pharmacists and pharmacies involved in compounding are regulated by the federal government (Food and Drug Administration) and state governments. In addition, rigid standards set by the United States Pharmacopeial (USP) Convention are integrated into the practice of pharmacy compounding.

Your patient’s health and safety should be the number one concern for any compounding pharmacy you use. To find the right pharmacy for your practice, be sure your pharmacy:

The Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) is a service of the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC). It’s a third-party accreditation organization that has developed the highest national standards that providers are measured against in order to illustrate their ability to effectively and efficiently deliver quality compounded medications to consumers.

PCAB Accreditation requires pharmacies to demonstrate compliance with specific process standards. PCAB performs on-site visits with industry-expert surveyors who audit specific areas of performance. PCAB Accreditation also requires annual validation to ensure continued compliance with all applicable standards. By choosing a compounding pharmacy that has achieved PCAB Accreditation, you can take comfort in knowing that the pharmacy meets national quality standards. If you have any questions or concerns about PCAB accreditation, you may contact ACHC directly at 855-937-2242.
